The Kehlsteinhaus is a mountain inn above Berchtesgaden that was built by the NSDAP as a representative building between 1937 and 1938. It stands just below the summit of the Kehlstein at an altitude of 1834 metres on a mountain spur. A tunnel lined with natural stone leads 124 metres through the rock massif to a brass-clad lift. In just 41 seconds, the lift travels a further 124 metres into the interior of the Eagle's Nest.
